POS SYSTEMS · GUYANA

What does a POS system really cost in Guyana?

The monthly software subscription is usually the smallest number in the conversation. The full cost depends on hardware, setup, stock, staff, receipts, payments and how deeply the POS connects to the business.

A POS can mean a simple cash-register app or the centre of a business's operations. Those are not the same product and should not be priced as if they are.

Software can be cheap

For a concrete market reference, Nex currently lists its Premium POS plan for Guyana at GYD 2,600 per month or GYD 26,000 per year. That is useful context, but it is software pricing — not the total cost of a working counter setup.

The other costs are where the real system appears

  • Device: tablet, laptop or dedicated POS terminal.
  • Receipt printer: usually an 80 mm thermal printer for counter use.
  • Cash drawer: often triggered by the receipt printer.
  • Labels or tags: important for retail, laundry and similar workflows.
  • Inventory setup: products, units, starting stock and low-stock rules.
  • Staff access: roles, permissions and accountability.
  • Payments: card terminals, bank systems and any digital payment workflows are separate from the POS software itself.
  • Internet and fallback: a business needs a plan for outages, especially if the system is cloud-based.
  • Support: somebody has to own problems when the printer, device, account or workflow stops behaving.

Do you need an off-the-shelf POS or a custom one?

If the business sells standard products at a counter, an existing POS may be the right answer. If the workflow includes unusual pricing, job stages, tags, service orders, staff handoffs, online ordering or special reporting, the POS may need configuration or a custom operations layer around it.

The better buying question

Do not ask only “what POS should I buy?” Ask “what happens from the moment a customer pays until the order is completed, stock is updated and the owner can see what happened?” That is the workflow the system has to support.
